Last minute dash for the Poetry Bus.

This weeks challenge comes from Enchanted Oak who posted two photographs on her blog and suggested we choose one to write about. As I have been enjoying the summery conditions in my garden today and watching all the birds and insects buzzing about, I chose her picture of the boat moored under trees which to me is a very summery image.

Summer.
The air is full of beating wings -
myriad busy flighted things,
from birds of many types and size
to dragonflies with bulbous eyes
and tiny moths abroad by day
to butterflies who never stay
to let me watch their aerial feats.
Our summertime brings all these treats.
When autumn comes, as well it must
and summer dreams are turned to dust
then washed away by winter's rain
the seasons pass - it's here again.

A glorious feat, Heather. Your melodic vision had me fluttering in the summer air with winged things. What a pleasure!

Oh this is so sweet (and I don't mean of the sugary kind). I love the ending (perhaps because I seem to be galloping a pace towards my free bus pass that's if they still exsit in a few years time!)
A real joy, loved it.

Very nice - especially liked the 3rd and 4th lines - the great sounds in them... sounded buzzing!

Lovely, Heather. I feel a real hint of autumn in the air today although the sun is very hot.

Summer is for stepping back, really taking a look at the wonder surrounding us ... your poem captured that perfectly.

I'm not sure if anyone has identified your strange little bugs in an earlier post, but they are the larvae of the ladybirds I think.
