Written in haste.

This week's Poetry Bus challenge has been set by Karen whose blog is Keeping Secrets. She suggests we write about our early school memories. She has a picture of a bright yellow school bus on her blog, but as I recall our bus was blue. If I had the time, skill and patience I could probably google one up, but you'll have to imagine it. Some of us need better memories than others as those days are now well and truly in the dim, distant past. Here is my hastily concocted offering:

Ghastly dinners
horrid sums.
Liked reading, writing
and lovely chums.

Two scarey teachers
but others were sweet.
Remembering details
- too much of a feat.

The early memories
are mostly good
but not sour milk in summer
and soggy Yorkshire pud!

Enjoy the Bank Holiday, whatever you are doing - I've asked the sun to shine again.

I remember we used to call jam roly poly 'arm in bandage' and sago pudding 'fish's eyes in glue'. Ah those were the heady days Heather eh?

Ah, Jamie Oliver has it all sorted out now, hasn't he?

I went to school in California and it was the same here without the Yorkshire pud.

Our dinners weren't too bad, especially the chocolate pudding with chocolate sauce!

Thanks for asking the sun to shine Heather - it certainly worked over at the Three Counties Showground LOL.
My mum was one of the school canteen cooks so we always got the best bits. Your poem certainly beings back memories.

My mum was a school meals cook and all I can say is, lucky kids! We had some dreadful dinners and puds (rice pudding, semolina) and some great ones (iced gingerbread, crspy meat flan). This was a nice fun pome.

Makes me glad I always lived close enough to home to never experience school dinners! :)

Finally, a poem that isn't totally filled with awful memories, although that school food gets a bad rap for sure!

Today, we have salad bars, choices, and nutritionists who determine that the foods are healthy and appropriate. No more mystery meat!
