Murder and Mayhem!

We have been plagued by house flies for the past two days. There was a similar problem two or three weeks back and I thought it had been resolved. I am exhausted from swatting the little blighters and have resorted to that most attractive addition to interior decor, the fly paper! I have lost count of the number we have dispatched - it certainly runs into dozens and may even be hundreds now. Where do they keep coming from?

I have tried three times to get photos onto this post and the font size seems to be altering itself without my permission. This does nothing for my confidence in laptops or computers in general. I've posted photos dozens of times now with no trouble at all, so I don't think it is down to me.

I had a very productive morning after vacuuming up the corpses, removing the splats and cleaning down all surfaces and made a batch of granola to perk up my rather plain oat cereal, followed by bread rolls, biscuits and cheese scones. At least I can still cook. Yours, Fed Up of Bristol!

We have a house fly problem each spring when they seem to come out of our eaves - they obviously over-winter there. Don't know what the answer is - I suppose it is keep all doors and windows shut - or suffer. Hope it soon passes, flypapers are such gruesome things.

Have you tried the zip lock bag of water hung outside the back door.
Apparently the light reflecting off the water frightens off the flies.

My house fly problem was earlier in the year but fortunately they have disappeared now. Interesting advice about the bag of water.

I don't know how they get into the house in the first place. We have been out most of the day so no doors or windows open and as far as I could tell were fly free before we went. On our return there were another dozen or so in the living room carefully avoiding the fly paper! They're not daft. Haven't heard of the bag of water remedy - thankyou for that Carlseapatch. I have murdered so many, they could end up extinct by next year.

Each year Lidl sell window and door nets ,for very little, which are fixed around the frame with sticky backed velcro and they work very well.I know this won't help now but it's worth bearing in mind for next year.

I absolutely hate flies too and can't settle if there's one in the room. Presumably they must have laid some eggs somewhere to be coming out in those numbers. Hope you are rid of them soon. Thank you for all your recent messages on my blog :)

Well I suppose thats one thing we must be grateful for here in the North..its been too cold for most insects this summer. In fact there's a slug in my wasp trap.

Down the road in Congresbury it has been a bad year for flies, too. I bought some pheremone-loaded special sticky fly traps and have caught a fair number, but still they come. Fly-screens for next year may well be necessary :(
