A bracing walk and a trip on the Poetry Bus.

We've had some glorious sunny days this week even though it is still very cold, with hard frosts each night. I just had to get out in it yesterday and go for a walk. Even this tree was wrapped in a nice warm mossy jacket. It's hard to believe that the A38 runs along the treeline in the distance in the photo below. Living as I do, surrounded by other houses, I love to look at this view and stretch my eyes into the distance.
I was very pleased to see this lovely furry bumblebee - he was enjoying the sunshine and braving the chilly wind. I hope he finds enough food to keep him going till it gets a bit warmer.

These primroses are the real thing, growing wild in a hedge and not in someone's garden ..........

......... likewise the snowdrops below.

I wasn't entirely surprised to see ice on the puddles at the side of the road - the water in our birdbath has been solid every morning for ages.
There's still a little way to go before we need to get the garden chairs out!

.
For this week's poetry challenge, TFE suggested we might like to write about trains or a train journey - failing that, we could write about anything we chose. My poem chose me and it is more or less what happened on Sunday morning:
Cocooned in warmth and comfort
still drowsy, I open my eyes.
The bedside clock says 7.00am
shadows of birds flitting past the window
are cast against the sunlit curtains.
It's going to be a lovely day - but
it will wait for me - I can luxuriate
a little longer.
Not so!
A furry weight alights on the foot of the bed
tramples me under paw
shoving his face into mine
purring loudly
whiskers tickling
paws treadling
proclaiming breakfast time.
I might as well give in gracefully -
he's very persistent and after all
it's going to be a lovely day.

I love your photos. Isn't it wonderful to have sunny days again, even if they are a little chilly. The poem is delightful. I once had a cat who, if all else failed, used to bite my hair!

Aaah, your lovely poem brought back happy memories. I miss my beautiful Pebble; she was just like the cat in the Sheba ad. She went to sleep at the vets a while back, aged 20.
DH and I are currently not in agreement about having another one :-(

I live this every day. We call one of our four, "Clockwork Orange". He is the rooster of the clan.

Lovely, leisurely and languid poem. Makes me want to go back to bed.

Our son's cat pats his face to wake him up and if he doesn't wake up quickly enough, he uses his claws! Our cat is nearly 18 and not very well at present, so is totally indulged I'm afraid. What fools we make of ourselves over our pets!

Lovely photos and lovely poem - I can relate to the "not so" except that the paws belong to Jock, jumping up on us to say you can't possibly sleep another minute! Cheers, Robin

I've enjoyed catching up with this and the previous 2 posts Heather. The photos are lovely and it's wonderful to see the Spring flowers. You have some beautiful stamps. I have used some stamps with fabric paint and got some reasonable images.

Lovely upbeat poem and a cat makes a great (more persistant) alarm clock!

The image of birds winging their shadowy ways across the morning curtain is lovely. I can imagine they might have been a temptation for the cat.

your cat is -just- like mine! really really purry and cuddly before breakfast. The rest of the day, not so much.
I like imagining the birds' shadows on the curtain. Great poem.
