The Toll House Gallery, Clevedon.

I did my stint of 'meet the artist' stewarding yesterday with one other member of our group. It was a dull and windy day but we had a steady stream of visitors throughout. They seemed very appreciative of our group's work though none was in the mood for shopping! Here is a small sample of the work exhibited but I think my photos have not done them justice. I didn't bother to take any of my pieces as you have seen them all before - small fabric landscapes with standing stones.

The views from the window were lovely too, even on a dull day. I am not used to looking out onto rocks and water so it was quite a novelty.

I love the textures of the rocks, shingle and seaweed. When the tide had gone out a bit there was sand too.

There is this dinky little pier which was very popular throughout the day. Just a little less breeze and a bit of sun would have made a perfect day for the holidaymakers.

Clevedon is North Somerset and in the far distance just to the right of the pier in the picture above is Newport in South Wales and to the left is Cardiff. The exhibition runs till the end of August and we are on duty again next Sunday. Hope the sun comes out!

Lovely photos Heather. I do think that the reason people don't buy this stuff is often that they can't think what to do with it when they get it home. From the artist's point of view, it is always difficult to price the stuff because the number of hours you have put in cannot translate into anything like you are likely to get for it. I once beaded a specs case and someone wanted me to make one as a present for someone leaving work - they were willing to pay. When I worked it out it would take me about fifty hours - they didn't want to pay that much !

Very true Pat. It is always a problem and we all hate pricing our work. Galleries have to make a living too and sometimes the commission can be a bit steep which makes it even harder to fix a fair price. The current economic climate doesn't help and some people don't differentiate between homemade and handmade.

looks like some lovely work from your group Heather. I agree with the comments so far about pricing. it's a never ending problem. hadn't realised Clevedon was so lovely. had my first visit to the Festival of Quilts today. once again proved to me how very innovative, clever, artistic, imaginative etc etc we are.

Lovely photos of some beautiful work. I agree about how hard it is to price pieces so that you get a fair return and they still sell. I would hate to be depending on selling to make a living! I hope the sun comes out for your next stewarding session. Cheers

A lovely exhibition Heather. There is never going to be an answer to pricing I fear and unfortunately people do not seem to realise that artists actually have to make a living. The Tentmakers of Cairo were selling exquisite pieces of work at the FOQ but at what would be considered extremely low prices over here and their quilts were almost flying off the display. I doubt that nearly so many would have been sold if people had been asked to pay what they were really worth
