I glanced out of the window this morning to see this -
then he saw me and I had to be quick to get a picture. It's not very clear as I had to take it through the window.He's doing is bit to save the birds from overeating. My husband puts out peanuts, niger seed as well as a mix of other seeds, suet or lard, apples, bread, meal worms and sultanas. I worry that the RSPB will be after us for the rise in avian cholesterol levels and obesity!

Yes, I sometimes wonder about cholesterol levels too Heather - we seem to support such a huge bird population - but no squirrels luckily.
We have red squirrels, which are more ferocious than the grey, and will chase away all the birds......
My DH came up with an idea to keep them out of the feeder.....on the post below where the feeder is, he has placed a plastic, rimless pail, placed upside down. The squirrels climb up the post and into the bottom of the pail. They can't jump from the pole to catch the pail edge since it's rimless and smooth, and it's placed high enough off the ground, and far enough away from trees that they can't launch themselves onto the feeder......
After 4 years, they eventually chewed a hole through the plastic to get to the seeds, but DH then lined the pail with tin, and stopped them.
I do sprinkle out seeds onto the ground in several areas so the squirrels aren't left out.......
better fat birds than no birds at all Heather! we only seem to get pigeons on ours at the moment. well done on managing to snap the squirrel so quickly too.

Hi Heather, I so enjoyed your last 2 posts, we have squirrels in abundance in our new garden and they keep us amused every morning, my DH's is not so sentimental as they play havoc with his bird feeders.
